Water Damage
Usually, an insurance policy will have specifications making a distinction between water damage and flood damage. A typical homeowner’s policy covers water damage, such as a burst pipe or backed-up plumbing. In most cases, natural flooding is not included (generally this is something you have to add to your policy). So, if your home is inundated with water as a result of plumbing issues, it should be covered in full under your policy. However, if a nearby river has overflowed its banks and your home has been flooded, you won’t be covered by insurance unless you have a specific policy covering this circumstance.

Storm Damage
Standard policies will cover damages caused by winds and tornadoes. They will also cover some kinds of rain and snow damage. If your roof or window was damaged and snow or rain entered through the opening, they should pay for the costs of cleanup.
With rain damage, the rules of water damage still apply. You’ll want to know if you have a provision for flooding or not. If you don’t, any damage from a natural flooding event will not be covered by your insurance and you will have to front the costs.

Fire Damage
Most standard homeowner’s insurance policies take care of fire damage costs. Usually, the cause of the fire is not a factor that affects this (except for intentional damage by the homeowner). The insurance company should cover all damage in full, including cleanup for smoke and water damage, contents restorations, and reconstruction. If you have to make other living arrangements while your home is being repaired, your insurance company should also have this covered.
Mold
Mold removal should be covered by your insurance provider if the damage was a result of a “named peril” that has been listed on your policy. If the cause of the damage is not on your policy, damages won’t be covered. Situations like water damage from a pipe burst that led to mold should be covered. However, most standard policies do not have provisions for mold growth from negligence or flooding.
